Effervescent Saga: Ch01

The first chapter is here!

I'm using Suikoden 3 format for this fanfic, where the story is seen by different point of views for each chapter. while the main character for the story is Alceus, but the 'real' main characters is the Effervescent itself (for those who don't know, it's a name of a ring/guild in Indo ECO), just like Suikoden's 108 Stars of Destiny. And the main character in this chapter is not my character, it's my friend's instead.

Hopefully you'll enjoy this chapter too..^^

Chapter1
The Journey Begins

“I see.. Are you sure you want to join us?” asked a man in full armor. His eyes looked at the young man before him with a sharp look. He had to be sure that the man was worthy of getting accepted. After all, he’s the master of the swordsman guild in Acronia. “Let see.. it’s not that I don’t want to accept you, but you should at least prove yourself, Mr...”

“Kaistern, sir,” answered the tall, spiky haired man coolly, “I’m ready to prove my worth.”
The Swordsman Master nodded, “A determined gaze you have there, young traveler. Very well, a challenge should be necessary then.  Hmm…bring me meat from the Bawoos as a token of your accomplishment. It should be challenging but doable for you. Now off you go.”

“Sir!” Kaistern saluted smartly to the Swordsman Master and walked away from the which is decorated by plate armors, swords, basically the kind that you would see a swordsman wearing. A Bawoo’s meat and he’ll be a swordsman. “Well, that’s easy…and here I thought that the quest would be harder..” He muttered to himself as he went all the way down to the first floor.

Acropolis city, the biggest city in Acronia Continent. It is directly located at it’s center and thus the city doubles as the arbiter to the four faction in Acronia. At the center of Uptown district stood a big white marble palace that serves as a headquarter to all jobs in Acronia, aptly nicknamed the “Guild Palace.”

Kaistern walked out from the Palace and headed to the Downtown, ignoring the people that called for him to see their vending as his head was now filled with the task given to him. If he wanted to finish the task smoothly, then he needed to prepare everything. And Downtown was the best place to find everything, literally everything.

“So, you’re ready for your test, boy?” A big merchant in green smiled at Kaistern when he strode over to him. He knew Kaistern since he was only a toddler  and had since then treated him like his own son.

“Yes, I’m ready for everything.” Kaistern said confidently.

“Ohohoho.. I like your spirit!” The merchant opened his giant bag and took a sword out from inside. “This is a little gift from me. Use it and become a great swordsman!”

Kaistern took the sword and admired its elegant marking on its sheath before placing the sword on his belt. “Thank you, sir. This should be very useful to me.” with that said and a small nod to once again show his gratitude, he ran off to the north, heading to where the Bawoos usually resided, leaving the old merchant smiling proudly at him.

“Is that.. the boy you’re always proud of?”

The old merchant turned around and found  a woman stood next to him. “Oh, what bring the famous fortune-teller here? Are you really free, Remia? You know, you almost never leave your place.”

The woman called Remia ignored the merchant’s question and kept staring at where Kaistern disappeared to. “His life will change today. Something big is waiting for him.”

“Ahahaha!!” the merchant’s laugh echoed almost in all over the Downtown, making himself the center of attention for the people aound him. “Even before you say that, I know he’s going to be great! It’s too bad the lad won’t continue my business as a merchant, but still he’ll  be a great man!”

Once again, Remia ignored him and turned around, “The big thing I’m talking about is something bigger than you can think of, but I guess it’s useless to tell you..” she said as she walked back to his own place, then whispered to herself, “and not even I know what that ‘big’ is.”

--
“They say that Bawoos can be found around the path to the mountain, but I haven’t seen any of them..” Vermilion eyes survey their surroundings critically, trying to spot one of those brownish-yellow pelts that is unique to the monster. Normally he would had seen one by then, so it’s a little strange when he had not spotted even one during his stroll.

“KYAAA!!”

A scream from afar made Kaistern  stop dead on his tracks. “A girl’s voice?!” Without wasting anymore time, he dashed towards the source all the while berating himself for such naïve thinking. ‘Of course, why didn’t I realize it before. Bawoos usually attack in group. The fact that there are none here must mean that they’re attacking someone already!’

It didn’t take long before a blue-haired girl with a pair of wings on her back came to his sight. She was surrounded by 5 Bawoo led by a red Bawoo. “A crimson bawoo? Why is it—Bah! I’ll worry about that later. I’m coming, Miss!”

Kaistern swung the sword in a wide arc. His actions managed to get him closer to the girl, even though that means he’s also inside the enemy circle. He pointed his sword to the red bawoo who he had predicted to be the leader from its difference of color while risking a glance to the girl on his right. “Are you allright?”

A confused look adorned the girl’s pale visage. “Y-Yes, I’m alright.. But—“

“We can talk later. On normal circumstances, I’ll be able to beat those dogs easily, but the red one worries me. It looks like I won’t be able to beat it alone. We should retreat for now.” Kaistern swung his sword randomly, but even that’s enough to make an escape path from the Bawoos. Without a second thought, he grabbed the girl’s hands and dragged her towards the clearing.

The girl, hand still grabbed tightly by Kaistern, looked back only to find that the Bawoos were still after them, and to make everything worse, the distance were shortening . “It’s not good! They’re catching up!”
Suddenly a beam of light was shot down from the sky in afar, and for some reason, the Bawoos stopped chasing Kaistern and the winged girl. The light itself wasn’t very bright, but it took the bawoos’ attention from them momentarily.

Realizing this, the girl stared at the place where the light hit and turned at Kaistern. “I think we should go there. Who knows, maybe there’s something we can use to fight those Bawoos.

Nodding in agreement, Kaistern led the girl faster. “Yeah, let’s check it out!”
