Effervescent Saga: Ch02

Alright. 3 chapter in a day. I can't really sleep and I ended up writing these ch0 to ch 2 in a night. but since Lenneth, who proofreading this fanfic didn't say anything bad about the quality (at least not in the story, although she said my grammar sucks T_T), so I only did some minor change to these 'instant' chapters.

Anywah, please read the next chapter. Also please leave a comment that will help me improve my skills of course. No spam, no flame. After all, I'm still a newbie in this fanfic world.

Chapter 2
The Arrival

Everything was white. All he could see was emptiness. But slowly the scenery reveals itself into a picturesque array of trees and cliffs. Alceus realized then that he was currently inside a sphere of bright light, and that light was starting to fade.

Alceus took in his surroundings before he finally sighed. “I’m in some unknown land..Again…! But I guess this is the Acronia she talked about.” He closed his eyes for a moment until his eyes were now accustomed to the surrounding. It didn’t feel too good to see specks of lights in his vision.

“Yosh! Now where should I start doing what I don’t even know what to do in this unknown land?” he sighed yet again, his spirits furiously deflating as he tried to remember whether Tita had gave him some clue as to what he should be doing here. She talked about her friends and that particular ‘I miss you’ message, yet she didn’t even bother explaining what he should do. “Oh well, as expected from girl her age. They mull too much when they’re in love and end up forgetting the most crucial point.”

Just as he’s about to walk down the mountain path, he saw two people running to his direction, holding hands. “What the.. another couple? What’s with love anyway!? I swear love’s gotta be the stupidest word ever..” He let out the third sigh since he came to that place. But at least it’s still worth asking them where the nearest town was.

Alceus saw that the man who up to him had a disappointed frown on his face. ‘What’s his problem!? Oh right, I ruined some alone time with his girl.’ But when he looked at the girl, she was wearing an expression that totally contrasted the man. A desperate expression, in fact.

“RUUUNNN!”

“Heh? What?” While thinking hard what the girl meant by ‘RUN!’. Should he run from the disappointed man to avoid a bloodbath that was sure to come for him that disturbed their alone time? It was few seconds before Alceus finally could see a group of dogs chasing after them, vicious fangs and saliva exposed from their jaws. “Crap! What kind of welcome greeting is this!?”

The man stopped before Alceus, forcing the girl to stop as well in the process. “It’s useless to run any further. They’re faster than us. It seems that a fight is inevitable.” He remarked as he took out his sword from its seath, brilliant blade sparkling in the sunlight.  He turned and scrutinized Alceus, “and you’re going to help us.”

“What? Why should I? This is your problem, right? Don’t involve me any further than what I’ve been involved into although even I don’t know what it is!”

The man glared at Alceus as if offended,” Are you going to let a lady fight for you!?” He swung his sword to a tree, fluidly cutting it into a spear-like shape, before throwing it to Alceus. “Take it. I’ll defend the lady while you stand your ground.”

“Hey! I’m not a coward and didn’t you hear me?” He shouted, yet his hand still caught the spear thrown at him. “I said—“

“Please..” The winged girl suddenly spoke, clapping her hands as if begging him to help them.  “We have no chance against them just by the two of us.”

Looking at the girl made Alceus remembered the angel he met before. ‘Are angels common in this world? And why the hell are you making that face?! Must resist…kicked puppy..look..! Bah! I give up!’  he sighed again and turned to the group of dogs. “Alright. But you guys are going to answer my question in return.”

“Deal,” said the black-haired man. “Since we’re going to cooperate, then I believe we should at least know each other’s name. I’m Kaistern. And this is..” he gestured the winged girl next to him, but stopped when he realized that he didn’t know her name himself.

“Caramel DeLatte.” She said smiling amiably, “Latte for short.”

Alceus let out a small chuckle. He noticed that Kaistern did the same even when it’s more reined and polite. “A unique name you got there! Well never mind, the name’s Alceus.”

Latte grinned at the remark and the three began conversing with each other. The bawoo, meanwhile, must have been getting sick at being ignored so one decided to threw itself to the winged girl. Kaistern easily deflected it with the blunt side of his blade and for one moment, his back was open. Another bawoo leaped at the chance. Unfortunately a spear flew and struck its head in the nick of time. The dog was subdued before it can gnash his teeth into flesh but the claws of the dogs still managed to puncture Kaistern.

“So you’re the knight in shining armor, yeah? A gallant move, though it’s really sad when you see the knight can’t protect himself,” quipped Alceus with a smirk.

“Though it’s true that those who wield the sword use it for the sake of others, you should probably note that I’ll be leaning more to the swordsman’s way of the sword not the knight’s.” Smiling charmingly, Kaistern casually replied while slashing another Bawoo. “I must say I was surprised though. Throwing your spear like that, could you be the one wanting to be a knight or it’s just pure luck?”

Alceus quickly took his spear again and used it to slam a Bawoo, making it flew a few meters. “Every weapon is same. I don’t care how I’m using it as long as it’s effective.”

Latte watched as the two men talked in fighting terms that she couldn’t quite grasp. She watched the two amusedly as she decided that she couldn’t careless of what the men are discussing. Since the men have eliminated four Bawoos already, there is only the red one remaining. “Please do watch out for the red Bawoo over there. It is much quicker and stronger than the others.”

The two men nodded in response and turned their back to her to face the last monster. It was then that Latte realized that the claw mark on Kaistern’s back had begun bleeding. “Wait,” she touched the swordsman back gently, I can at least heal the wound for you.”

Kaistern watched in rapt admiration as the wound closed and disappeared as it have never been there before. “A messenger of the Vates, my lady? As expected for those who have the Titanian blood within them, always thinking of others before themselves.”

“Umm…I’m still training so it’s not really that great. Besides, it’s only been a few hours since I accepted the burden of a Vates.” Latte glanced away from Kaistern, red tinged her pale cheeks. It was pretty obvious, well, at least to Alceus.

‘Oh great, another love scene.’ Alceus shook his head in dismay. ‘But.. Titania? Vates?’ Just when he thought about it, the growl of the red dog returned his focus back to it, as if telling him not to forget its existence. “Guys, can you stop the flirting? Here it comes!”
